About Us
Mission & Goals
The USF Office of Pre-Professional Advising is committed to empowering students by providing current and accurate information, and honest and realistic feedback. We do not make the decisions for our students, but provide them with the knowledge and resources to make an informed decision and help in their career planning based on their goals, not ours. We are always truthful with a focus on building trust through mentorship and relationship-building.
It is our mission to enable pre-health and pre-law students to matriculate to programs for which they are the most competitive by providing support and resources throughout their time at USF.
Therefore, the following goals focus on student success while incorporating the elements of our mission, vision, and values.
- Providing students, faculty, and staff access to accurate information and resources that will facilitate a sense of direction in planning for and/or identifying pre-health and pre-law careers and programs of study.
- Empowering students to meet their goals through positive reinforcement, honest evaluations, and developmental advisement.
- Encouraging students to take ownership of their individual goals and paths by sharing helpful resources and strategies for self-sufficiency.
- Extending assistance to and providing counsel for all USF students, regardless of major or standing, including alumni, undecided, first-generation, academically at-risk, and international.
- Working in cooperation with academic departments and colleges as well as all other university entities to ensure excellent academic advisement that incorporates both degree, career, and co-curricular goals.
- Improving student retention by helping students develop a clear pre-health or pre-law plan early in their academic career.
Our mission and goals align with the College of Arts and Sciences Advising Core Values.
