C. Victor Fung is Professor of Music Education at USF since 2004 and Director of the Center for Music Education Research since 2005. His responsibilities include coordinating the Ph.D. program, advising Ph.D. students, and teaching graduate courses in Social Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation, Statistics, Qualitative Research, Philosophical and Historical Issues, and Music in Higher Education, and the undergraduate course Global Music Pedagogy in Local Context. He was recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Mentor Award (2017) at USF. His online courses were recognized as High Quality Gold Online Course Design (2023) by the USF Office of Corporate Training and Professional Education.

Fung is author of A Way of Music Education: Classic Chinese Wisdoms (Oxford University Press: 2018; translated to Chinese as《音乐教育之道:中国经典智慧》, Shanghai Conservatory of Music Press, 2024) and co-author of Music for Life: Music Participation and Quality of Life of Senior Citizens (Oxford University Press: 2016; translated to Chinese as《音悦人生:音乐参与和年长者的生活质量》, Shanghai Educational Publishing House, 2021) and Music, Senior Centers, and Quality of Life (Cambridge University Press: 2023). He also co-edited, and contributed chapters in, Meanings of Music Participation: Scenarios from the United States (Routledge, 2023) and The Oxford Handbook of Asian Philosophies in Music Education (Oxford University Press, 2024). He currently has two other books in progress. He has articles published in numerous professional journals, and he has served as a reviewer for fifteen such journals and as editor for three. His current research projects are in the areas of culturally diverse musical preferences and pedagogy, older adults' music participation, and Asian philosophies in music education. He has given over a hundred presentations at professional conferences across four continents and was a Fulbright researcher in Japan (2018). He has given open lectures and seminars at over thirty institutions in Brazil, China, Ireland, Japan, Turkey, and the United States.

He is also the founding director of The Sparkles, a world music fusion group at USF since 2022. The group has performed at elementary, middle, and high schools; communities; and professional conferences, including the 36th World Conference of the International Society for Music Education in Helsinki, Finland.

The two-track album (extended play, EP), Fung Flow, for which he served as Executive Producer, received a Bronze Medal in recognition of each of the two tracks in the categories of “concept” and “creativity/originality” by Global Music Awards (September 2023). The production was based on his 2018 book in collaboration with José Valentino and El G. Nie.

Fung holds a Ph.D. in Music Education with minor areas in Ethnomusicology and Conducting from Indiana University, Bloomington. He was a Board Member for the International Society for Music Education, International Society for the Philosophy of Music Education, College Music Society, and Florida Music Education Association. He is currently Chair of the Philosophy Special Research Interest Group (SRIG), National Association for Music Education (NAfME).
