Graphic arts students work with clients to elevate their brand
A senior research course is giving graphic arts students the opportunity to produce real-world design work for local clients. This semester, students in the class collaborated with the USF College of Marine Science to design branding for the Tampa Bay Surveillance Project. The project combines skills and knowledge of the region’s fishing captains with scientists from the University of South Florida and Eckerd College to investigate contaminants in local waterways for human and environmental health.

How music can help boost cognition in cancer patients and COVID-19 survivors
In a first-of-its-kind study, University of South Florida researchers are finding that music can help boost cognition in patients undergoing chemotherapy. In partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center, Jennifer Bugos, USF professor of music education, and breast surgical oncologist Dr. Melissa Mallory, have been examining the effects of private and group piano lessons on cognition and everyday functioning in patients.

USF’s Herd of Thunder is putting in the mileage marching across the field at Raymond James Stadium. They’re two-for-two playing at home openers. First, it was the USF football game, and now, during halftime at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Washington Commanders.

USF architecture and water researchers partner with city of Tampa to mitigate the impact of extreme heat
With Tampa on track for record-breaking heat this summer, University of South Florida researchers are collaborating with the city of Tampa to implement strategies that can help protect the city and its residents. The project, Bridging Knowledge to Action, will direct the city’s efforts to enhance resilience through new initiatives, including planting more trees and establishing dedicated spaces for individuals to cool down.

Strong talent pipeline and collaborative connections in Tampa inspires architectural firm JSWD to open first office outside of Germany - Business Observer
A German architecture firm is opening its first United States office in Tampa and is in the process of hiring 30 new employees to run it. The firm is JSWD and is based in Cologne. It has a second office in Berlin. Its new 2,960-square-foot office in Tampa will be in a former storefront at 8401 N. Dale Mabry Highway, off Waters Avenue and just outside the city’s Carrollwood neighborhood. The space was previously occupied by Sorrento Sweets, a local Italian bakery. The firm is scheduled to open next week in the space.

Associate Professor Noelle Mason's work featured in Oxford American Magazine
Ground Control is a series of wool tapestries ranging from eight to twelve feet tall that depict satellite images of the U.S./Mexico border at current and historical places of conflict. The electromagnetic images used in this project are collected by U.S. government satellites used for “remote sensing” of the earth’s surface. Unlike photography that attempts to mimic the function of the eye, remote sensing collects data and constructs images through a process antimemetic to human experience.
