Professor Marilyn Stern Invited to Present at National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health Hot Topic Webinar Series
RMHC Professor Marilyn Stern, who studies interventions for obesity in rural Latino youth, was invited to participate in an April 27 webinar, Engaging Diverse Communities in Complementary and Integrative Health Research. The event is part of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) Hot Topic Webinar series and is being held in commemoration of National Minority Health Month.
Dr. Stern is presenting with Maria Pinzon, MA, Executive Director of Hispanic Services Council. They will share their experience working together on a National Institutes of Health research grant targeting Latinos living in the rural communities around Tampa who are at increased risk for obesity and obesity-related complications in adulthood including metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disease.
This work addresses an urgent public health epidemic, and is innovative as it implements a unique intervention that addresses many limitations in the current state of obesity prevention and employs a rigorous scientific approach.
