MHLP associate professor dances in 'Coming 2 America'

Dr. Kyaien Conner

Dr. Kyaien Conner is an associate professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy.

On March 3, the University honored Dr. Kyaien Conner, Associate Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy for her recent appearance in the film "Coming 2 America." In the film, Dr. Conner appears with Kuumba African dancers, a company based here in Tampa, FL. Dr. Conner has been a professional West African Dancer since she was 14 years old and currently leads Kuumba, an organization that focuses on preserving cultural arts and teaches community drum and dance for all ages.

During the virtual celebration, Dr. Conner discussed her experience on the set of "Coming 2 America," shared clips of her performance and highlighted connections between the cultural arts and her community-based research to address health disparities. President Currall, Dean Serovich and Chair Teague, along with many others, shared personal messages regarding the importance of Dr. Conner's work. Congratulations, Dr. Conner!
