Gerald Greenspan Endowed Scholarship to benefit behavioral healthcare students

Gerald Greenspan Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship was established with the support of a donation from Marius Greenspan in honor of his late brother Gerald “Jerry” Greenspan, a USF alum.

The College of Behavioral and Community Sciences (CBCS) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Gerald Greenspan Endowed Scholarship in Behavioral Healthcare. The fund will offer scholarships to full-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in behavioral healthcare on any of the University of South Florida (USF) campuses. It will be renewable and awarded based on financial need.

The scholarship was established with the support of a donation from Marius Greenspan in honor of his late brother Gerald “Jerry” Greenspan, a USF alum. Jerry Greenspan served as the president of Columbus Fitness Consultants; presented locally and nationally on fitness, fitness equipment, and nutrition; and authored the column “Inside Workout” in Inside Sports’ Home Gym and Fitness magazine. He earned graduate degrees from Ohio State University in the mechanics of human movement, human nutrition, and physical therapy after completing dual undergraduate degrees from USF in engineering and pre-medical sciences.

“The Gerald Greenspan Endowed Scholarship will support our students on their paths to pursing critical behavioral healthcare careers that will ensure that those in our communities are cared for and supported,” said CBCS Dean Julie Serovich, PhD. “We are grateful for this generous gift from Marius Greenspan that will honor Jerry’s memory.”

The Behavioral Healthcare major is offered by the Department of Mental Health Law and Policy within CBCS and prepares students for positions in agencies that provide treatment and services to individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse problems and their families, as well as in state agencies that provide oversight of publicly funded programs.
