Research & Data Center
Center Services
The Research and Data Center (RDC) is a resource available to faculty in CBCS for consultation regarding the development of research grant proposals and data analyses. Services provided by the RDC include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Preliminary discussion of study ideas. A faculty member may have a general area of research interest but need assistance in narrowing the focus of their initial thoughts. The RDC may assist by providing consultants who can serve as a sounding board and assist faculty in articulating specific questions and hypotheses that are amenable to research.
- Study design. After a specific research question or hypothesis has been formulated, RDC consultants may assist in identifying the optimal research design for conducting the study.
- Data analyses. RDC staff and consultants may assist with a variety of issues related to data analysis, including conducting analyses of preliminary data; deciding among qualitative and quantitative analytic methods appropriate to the study design and measures; conducting primary analyses of the study data.
- Data management. RDC staff and consultants may assist you with strategies for collecting, organizing, storing, and sharing data generated during the course of your research project. They also will be able to assist you with data use and/or sharing agreements, as well as complying with the new federal requirements and journals’ open science policies for sharing data.
- Power analyses. A power analysis in a research proposal may be a critical element in persuading a funding agency that the proposed study is capable of arriving at a meaningful answer to the question under investigation. RDC staff may assist by conducting power analyses for a variety of study designs and analytic techniques.
