Study Abroad: London
Join us for the CSD in London, England trip abroad during the spring/summer intercession of 2018! Students participating in this 8-day study abroad program to London, England will learn about the delivery of communication sciences and disorder services to individuals with a wide variety of communication disorders such as stuttering, hearing loss, autism spectrum disorder, and language difficulties. Students will observe evaluation and intervention services delivered throughout the London area. Graduate level students from the speech-language therapy (SLT) and audiology programs at University College of London will provide insight into their own programs while USF students participate in lectures provided by the university. In addition, students may participate in a 1/2-day tour and lecture at the Michael Palin Center for Stammering Children where their evidence based programs will be discussed and live therapy sessions may be observed. This opportunity will provide them with skills to conduct treatment with children who have stuttering (called "stammering" in the UK) disorders in a family centered model. The students can also visit and observe at a public day school focused on students with moderate special needs, including autism spectrum disorders and learning disabilities. The school houses preschool aged children through 24 years of age. Students will also have the opportunity to tour and join lectures related to voice, dysphagia, cochlear implants and aural rehabilitation at the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital. A visit to a local charitable organization and private practice center focused on helping those with hearing loss will also be on the itinerary. Apply now!
