Assistant Research Professor, Job ID 38406
The Center of Innovation, Technology and Aging (CITA) and the College of AI, cybersecurity and computing (CAICC) are jointly seeking to hire an Assistant Research Professor whose research aligns with CITA's research vision and can teach computer science undergraduate and graduate courses. Preferred candidates will have completed a PhD in computer science or a related area from an accredited institution. Successful candidates will be mentored by the Center Director for research and teaching. This recruitment is for a non-tenure earning full-time research position, renewable for up to two years. The expected teaching load is two courses per academic year – some courses can be in the candidate’s research area. Successful candidates can start as early as summer 2025.

Position Summary:
The Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of South Florida is seeking an exceptional postdoctoral scholar in robotics and machine learning. The postdoctoral scholar will lead efforts in developing AI models and robotics algorithms:
- AI models for patient condition assessment (emotion, pain, and physical conditions) and decision-making
- Robotics grasping and manipulation algorithm for physical interventions and care
The scholar will work as a part of an interdisciplinary team composed of professors from multiple institutions (USF, FAU, Notre Dame, Stanford, and TAMU,) and medical doctors from three hospitals (Tampa General Hospital, Stanford University Hospital, and Inova).
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in CSE, ECE, Robotics, or a related field focusing on machine learning and/or robotics. Experience with human subjects is a plus.

The position is available as early as January 2025. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Initial appointments are for one year, with the possibility of yearly renewal by mutual agreement. This position is funded with a two-year NIH UG3 grant and a three-year USF CREATE Center grant. Upon completing the UG3 phase milestones, it will transition to the UH3 Phase for three more years.
