Small Business

The Institute of Applied Engineering is unique in design leveraging internal engineering personnel, program management, financial, and FAR contract expertise to deliver results across the spectrum of need.  If the customer’s need cannot be answered internally, IAE connects with the faculty at the University of South Florida to solve the problem.  Further the IAE can leverage a consortium of 30+ universities and small businesses across the nation to address customer’s needs.

The most prevalent way we partner with small businesses is through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs.

DOD STTR Cycle 24.C

Below is the timeline IAE will follow for STTR Cycle 24.C.  Bold indicates the currently published dates by DoD.

  • August 21, 2024 -- Pre-release topics
  • August 21 – September 17, 2024 – Opportunity to contact STTR topic TPOCs and conduct clarifying meetings; IAE willing to attend as potential research partner to small business 
  • August 22-28, 2024 – IAE reviews topics and shares those that align with our core competencies
  • August 29 – September 17, 2024 – Initial meeting between small business and IAE Business Development team (note: technical discussion with IAE engineers may occur once this meeting is complete and NDA is signed)
  • August 29 – September 17, 2024 – Complete and/or update non-disclosure (NDA) and Teaming Agreements with small businesses
  • September 18, 2024 -- Open/release of topics
  • September 19 – 26, 2024 -- Technical discussion between small business and IAE engineers to discuss alignment on topic and areas of work between small business and IAE; NDA must be complete prior to technical discussion with IAE engineers
  • September 30, 2024 – no later than decision for IAE to decide on serving as partnered research institution for STTR cycle 24.C
  • October 1, 2024 – no later than date for IAE to notify small business on partnership decision 
  • September 27 – October 11, 2024 – Small business prepares proposal with IAE input (additional meetings as necessary); Teaming and Rights Allocation Agreements completed
  • October 14-16, 2024 – Association of United States Army Annual Meeting (IAE will have limited ability to support proposal development these days)
  • Proposals due – October 16, 2024
