Capabilities
Core Competencies
IAE’s main differentiator comes from integrating systems across various areas to provide a wholistic, not singular answer to the customer. Our wide expertise allows us to test and validate the integration within a system of devices/networks and find ways to bolster any limiting factors.
While these seven core competencies reflect the abilities of the internal team, we have strong links with University Faculty across well-established and emerging fields such as Transportation, Energy, Nanotechnology, Quantum communications, and Human Performance.
Integrated Systems
The integration between Software Systems, Intelligent Systems, Space Systems, Mechanical Design, and Rapid Prototyping allows IAE to stands out across diverse domains, offering a comprehensive rather than isolated solution to our customers. Leveraging our extensive expertise, we thoroughly test and validate these integrations within device and network systems, identifying and strengthening any constraints.
Software Systems
We have the capability to design and build full-stack, web-centric and embedded software intensive systems utilizing the best practices of agile software engineering, DevSecOps, and cloud technologies, practices, and services. The IAE has facilities and infrastructure to design, build, and test physical IoT devices and firmware, and integrate with gov-cloud compliant infrastructure. Our team’s expertise extends into applied artificial intelligence, machine learning, UX/UI design, and testing. Our software has been used to link various communication pathways (RF, Ultra-Wide Band, HF, Iridium, 5G, LTE) between devices, networks, and infrastructures. We also maintain the ability to train professionals with limited technical backgrounds in selecting IoT components, integrating them into systems, programming, and deploying them in operational environments.
Intelligent Systems
We recognize the importance of applied Autonomy, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning (AI/ML) in our present-day systems and the systems of the future. Our AI/ML technologies have been utilized in embedded resource-constrained applications and in cloud centric domains to deliver unparalleled results for our customers. We have performed extensive market and technological studies on behalf of our customers to identify promising near-term AI/ML technologies that can be adopted and transitioned into near-term systems and deliver uncontested competitive advantage. We continue to develop innovative applied AI/ML technologies, tools, and frameworks for autonomous ground, air, space, and maritime systems that will enable a full spectrum of capabilities to operate independently, as cooperating agents, and as teammates for human operators.
Space Systems
Our expertise in the space domain encompasses hardware, software, commercial, and bespoke systems and subsystems with a focus on next-generation capabilities. From autonomous planetary landing technologies to experimental components and buses, to signals intelligence, we integrate technical and regulatory expertise to launch readiness, space operations, data management, and low Earth orbit applications to meet customers’ needs. We maintain the equipment required to rapidly iterate on, test, and deliver flight-ready components and systems, including a clean room for integration, an electrodynamic shaker for vibration testing, and a thermal vacuum chamber equipped with power, data, and RF connectors for functional and flight readiness testing in the simulated space environment.
Mechanical Design
Our engineers have designed support mechanisms, landing systems and satellite buses and payloads. We design our solutions with the aim of scaled production, so that our answers to the customer are repeatable and expandable. Our in-house additive and subtractive manufacturing capability supports high-quality prototypes and very small-scale production, and we maintain relationships with partners so that our solutions can be seamlessly transitioned to industry for rapid scaling.
Rapid Prototyping
Our Rapid Experimentation Lab (REL) enables IAE engineers and customers to collaborate, fostering agile design and development of physical and cyber-physical prototypes and systems. The REL's interdisciplinary facilities support additive manufacturing, machining, electronics, RF development, and specialized test equipment including vacuum and RF chambers. It incorporates an open collaboration space designed to enhance communication and foster seamless cooperation among all stakeholders.
Talent Development
As a part of USF, we recognize the importance of developing tomorrow’s technical experts and leaders. We offer managed intern programs within the DoD that offer pathways for undergraduate and graduate students to full time employment. Our internships offer possible security clearance acceleration and integrate USF’s large veteran and veteran affiliated population. Our software development has also included specific curriculums and learning management suites that have educated our customers with the tools of the future.
