CSE Professor Katkoori and his MS student, Raaga Sai Somesula, have received The Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation (OTD) Award for Raaga’s Master’s thesis work on a resource-efficient custom hardware for machine learning models.
USF CyberHerd Takes Second Place in U.S. Navy Cyber Resiliency Challenge
USF’s CyberHerd team won second place and a $40,000 prize in the U.S. Navy’s Cyber Resiliency Challenge, showcasing their cybersecurity expertise. The team’s innovative HERD Tool impressed judges and highlighted USF’s strength in cybersecurity education.

NSF Grant Awarded to Dr. Yavuz of USF’s Engineering Computer Science Department for SATUQ Project
Dr. Attila A. Yavuz of USF’s Computer Science and Engineering Department has been awarded a $364,117 NSF grant to advance cybersecurity for integrated satellite-terrestrial networks. His SATUQ project focuses on quantum-resistant cryptography and decentralized security to safeguard critical infrastructure and emerging tech like 6G.
USF CyberHerd Takes 2nd & 3rd at Cybersecurity Competition
USF’s CyberHerd was formed by the College of Engineering's Department of Computer Science & Engineering. This was the team's first time at the summit and they achieved 2nd and 3rd place at the 2024 Aviation Information Sharing and Analysis Center (A-ISAC) Cybersecurity Summit.
Professor Licato’s Startup was Awarded an NSF Grant
Associate Professor John Licato, Computer Science and Engineering and Associate Director for Outreach, USF Institute for AI+X, has recently received an NSF Grant of $275,000 to develop tools to ensure AI adheres to human rules, ethics, and regulations.

AI in Neonatal Care: CSE Professors and Colleagues Receive $1.2M Grant
In September 2024, the National Institutes of Health awarded a two-year UG3 grant of $1,278,689 to a multi-institution, multi-hospital, interdisciplinary team led by USF faculty in support of the project titled "Developing AI-Driven Pain Intensity and Pain Sensitization Biomarker Signatures to Optimize Neonatal Pain Management" as a part of the NIH HEAL Initiative.
