USF Faculty Honored at ASEMFL 2024, Featuring a Rising Star Award Recipient!
The USF College of Engineering is proud to announce the recognition of multiple faculty members by the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL). Faculty recognized included: Dr. Prasant Mohapatra, Dr. Sylvia Wilson Thomas, and Dr. Susan Bell, celebrating their achievements and potential to shape the future of science and engineering in Florida. Also, the 2024 Rising Star awards for Dr. Anna Pyayt.
CSE Student received The Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation Award
CSE Professor Katkoori and his MS student, Raaga Sai Somesula, have received The Outstanding Thesis and Dissertation (OTD) Award for Raaga’s Master’s thesis work on a resource-efficient custom hardware for machine learning models.
CUTR 2024 Transportation Achievement Awards
The 2024 Transportation Achievement Awards were held on October 29. The transportation community joined together at the University of South Florida to celebrate excellence in transportation and planning. The CUTR event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and advocates to honor exceptional achievements that drive Florida’s transportation and infrastructure forward. Joe Lopano, CEO of Tampa International Airport (TPA), was inducted into the prestigious Florida Transportation Hall of Fame.

NSF Grant Awarded to Dr. Yavuz of USF’s Engineering Computer Science Department for SATUQ Project
Dr. Attila A. Yavuz of USF’s Computer Science and Engineering Department has been awarded a $364,117 NSF grant to advance cybersecurity for integrated satellite-terrestrial networks. His SATUQ project focuses on quantum-resistant cryptography and decentralized security to safeguard critical infrastructure and emerging tech like 6G.
Dr. Yucelen Recognized as Highly Ranked Scholar & Top Cited Scientist in 2024
Dr. Tansel Yucelen, associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at (USF) was named a Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS, ranking third in Adaptive Control and 154th in Control Theory, and has also been recognized as one of the top 2% of the most cited scientists worldwide in Stanford/Elsevier's annual citation ranking.

USF Receives $3 Million NSF Research Traineeship Award to Advance Semiconductor Research and Education
The University of South Florida (USF) has been awarded a $3 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through its Research Traineeship (NRT) program. The five-year initiative, titled "NRT: Science, Technology, Engineering, Program for Upward Partnership (STEP-UP) for Advancing Microelectronics Education and Training," aims to advance semiconductor education and research while addressing the growing need for skilled professionals in the microelectronics industry.
