Roboticon Tampa Bay 2018 Scheduled For Sept. 29 & 30

At ROBOTICON Tampa Bay 2018 nearly 1000 students from around Tampa Bay and Florida will descend on the University of South Florida Yuengling Center (formerly Sun Dome Arena) on September 29 & 30 to learn while they play and show guests the power of hands on, mentor driven STEAM education.

University of South Florida and Indiana University researchers find hearing loss after cisplatin-based chemotherapy in testicular cancer survivors

The researchers, Biomedical Engineering Professor Robert Frisina, Lois B. Travis, M.D., Sc.D., the Lawrence D. Einhorn Professor of Cancer Research at the IU School of Medicine and a researcher at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, studied for the first time the cumulative effects of cisplatin-based chemotherapy on hearing levels in testicular cancer survivors through comprehensive audiometry measurements.

USF ITE Student Chapter Team Wins Traffic Bowl Competition

The USF Institute of Traffic Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter Traffic Bowl Team won the 2017 Florida Section/District 10 ITE Traffic Bowl competition, which was held June 22 during the 2017 FSITE Summer Meeting in Naples, Fla. This marks a repeat District 10 Championship for the team, since the previous USF student team also won this honor last year.

On April 13, 2017, Professor James Mihelcic was awarded the Excellence in Environmental Engineering and Science Education (E4) award from American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists at the National Press Club (Washington, D.C.). The "E4" Award is granted to an educator who has made a significant contribution to the environmental engineering profession in the area of educating practitioners.

Maurice Ferre to Receive 2017 CUTR Transportation Award

Thornton Williams, University of South Florida Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) Advisory Board Chair and Managing Partner of the Williams Law Group, P.A., Tallahassee, announced today at the Florida Transportation Commission Workshop in Boca Raton that Florida Transportation Commissioner Maurice Ferré will receive the 2017 CUTR Transportation Achievement Award at the annual transportation awards event on Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at the University of South Florida Marshall Student Center on the Tampa Campus.

Piyush Koria Receives NIH Grant to Develop Therapies to Treat Chronic Wounds

he National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases of the National Institutes of Health has awarded a research grant to Piyush Koria, associate professor in the Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department, to develop novel therapies for healing chronic wounds. The public health and economic impact of chronic wound care is staggering, with an estimated annual cost upwards of more than eight billion dollars.
