Sigma Xi
Sigma Xi is the world’s largest general research honor society and was founded in 1886 to honor excellence in scientific investigation and encourage a sense of companionship and cooperating among researchers. Sigma Xi is an international, multidisciplinary organization for research scientists and engineers. Sigma Xi has 530 chapters around the world including chapters at universities and colleges, government laboratories and commercial research centers.
Over the course of the Society’s distinguished history, more than 200 members have won the Nobel Prize and many more have earned election to the National Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Engineering. Members in the Society hold a full or associate membership based on research achievements or potential. Membership in Sigma Xi is by nomination only. Associate member nominees are individuals who have shown potential as researchers, and full membership is conferred upon those who have demonstrated noteworthy achievements in research. Sigma Xi interprets “noteworthy achievement” to include primary authorship of two papers.
The USF Sigma Xi Chapter is committed to provide ways to share ideas and perspectives within the cross-disciplinary community of Sigma Xi through events and activities. In 2021, the USF Chapter was recognized with a Sigma Xi Chapter of Excellence Award for distinguished performance.
