For Stefania Alastre Arcusa, life has been a series of challenges and triumphs that led her to USF’s College of Public Health (COPH) and ultimately to her work as a genetic counselor at Moffitt Cancer Center. Her story is one of perseverance, shaped by her experiences as an immigrant, student and advocate for underserved communities.

Brooke Broxterman: Charting a course in public health and the Air Force
Air Force 1st Lt. Brooke Broxterman’s journey to USF’s College of Public Health (COPH) began in a place far from where she is today. Born in Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., the daughter of a military family, Broxterman spent her early years in Ohio before her family moved to Lakeland, Fla. She attended high school at the Harrison School for the Arts. Initially interested in a career in visual arts, she soon decided her calling was elsewhere.

Originally born in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, USF College of Public Health (COPH) alumna Alicia Gomez Fuego grew up in a small town outside of the city called San Luis on a small farm where large quantities of tobacco were planted and livestock raised.

COPH students get a behind-the-scenes look at Moffitt
Behind the Scenes is an event where a local alumnus allows a small group of current students (about 10-15) to get a special "behind the scenes" look at the job of the alumni host for a few hours in a day. The event held in July was co-hosted by USF’s College of Public Health (COPH) Office of Engagement and Constituent Relations and Office of Student Success and Well-being.
