Faculty from the USF College of Marine Science are featured in a recent report by Elsevier and Stanford University that details high-impact researchers from around the world.
The study identifies the top two percent of researchers worldwide across all fields of study, based on their citation impact through 2022. Nine current CMS faculty and two emeritus faculty made the list, which includes career-long and single-year citations.
“This is another outstanding achievement from our faculty at the College of Marine Science,” said Tom Frazer, professor and dean of CMS. “We continue to make significant contributions to the study of the world’s ocean, and this recognition illustrates the tremendous impact our faculty have on their fields.”
For career-long impact, the following College of Marine Science faculty are recognized:
- Robert Byrne and Al Hine ranked #17 and #303 respectively in the field of Oceanography (total 15,542 published researchers).
- Chuanmin Hu ranked #48 in the field of Geological & Geomatics Engineering (total 63,191 published researchers).
- Pam Hallock-Muller ranked #84 in the field of Paleontology (total 21,102 published researchers).
- Steve Murawski ranked #161 in the field of Fisheries (total 37,382 published researchers).
- Frank Muller-Karger and Brad Seibel ranked #313 and #512 in the field of Marine Biology & Hydrobiology (total 47,365 published researchers).
- Mya Breitbart ranked #750 in the field of Microbiology (total 190,396 published researchers).
- Don Chambers, Robert Weisberg, and Gary Mitchum ranked #851, #1,070 and #1,594 respectively in the field of Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences (total 70,828 published researchers).
For single-year impact, the following faculty were recognized:
