Dr. Pradeep Haldar, a PCGS adjunct faculty member, has recently received the Excellence in Civic & Community Engagement Award from the USF Office of Community Engagement. This award is a significant honor for the Patel College of Global Sustainability as we are recognized for our efforts and enthusiasm for sustainaility through education and research.
The Award for Excellence in Civic & Community Engagement is dedicated to a USF adjunct faculty member who best represents the University’s commitment to civic and commuinty engagement through their teaching, research, and service. Dr. Haldar receiving this award as a recognition for his class’ contributions to the local community via the partnership between PCGS and the Tampa International Airport (TPA) last semester.
PCGS and TPA have been collaborating to provide our students with exciting training opportunities while reviewing sustainable iniTPAtives for consideration. Students from the “ESG for Sustainable Business” class lectured by Dr. Haldar worked with the Sustainability and Innovation team at TPA to provide recommendations to achieve Net Zero goals as part of their electrification effort. Acting as “consultants-in-training”, our students reviewed, analyzed and reported on various projects to achieve TPA’s ESG, net-zero and resiliency goals. Comprehensive research was a primary part of the project, including financial and technical analysis on energy efficient lighting, renewable solar PV with energy storage, and converting their transportation fleet to electric vehicles. This fascinating opportunity has engaged our graduate students in the sustainability industry, specifically in the Florida state, and equipped them with necessary knowledge to develop their career.
In fact, Dr. Haldar and other professors at PCGS have been researching and designing engaging projects and developing new teaching methods to help our students’ become masters in the field of sustainability. In addition to PCGS’ long-lasting partnership with TPA, Dr. Haldar has worked on several projects with different organizations in the area, such as Publix, TD SYNNEX, Jabil, and more. Likewise, PCGS will continue establishing meaningful connections with other sustainability institutions in order to provide our students with the most in-depth experience and practical knowledge for their future career.
