Introduction:
Xiaoxiao Li, also known as Peggy, pursued her Master's degree in Global Sustainability
at USF. She completed her capstone experience as a market garden intern at the Rosebud
Continuum Sustainability Education Center, where she applied her sustainability knowledge
and project management skills.
Location: Rosebud Continuum Sustainability Education Center (Tampa, FL)
Achievements:
Guided by her concentration director, Dr. Dorsey, and her supervisor, Valerie, Peggy
developed a business model for the market garden aimed at generating stable revenue
and supporting future projects. Her model also promotes community engagement through
educational programs.Peggy used the Six Sigma DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design,
Verify) methodology to ensure a structured approach to the business model. She also
conducted market research and engaged stakeholders to align the project with community
needs.
Her work highlighted the role of regenerative agriculture in enhancing soil health and biodiversity. Despite some delays in implementation, Peggy's foundational work sets the stage for future success. Her efforts demonstrate how community-based agriculture can provide environmental, social, and economic benefits, empowering farmers and fostering a sustainable community. By sharing insights from her internship, Peggy hopes to inspire similar initiatives and create a ripple effect that extends beyond this community.
