Site Reorganization
Site reorganizations involve moving existing pages into new or revised website sections, renaming pages and sections, revamping homepages, rewriting content, archiving old content, redirecting existing pages, and more.
Before moving forward with a site reorganization, please consult the following guide. Once you've reviewed the guide and are ready to begin the site reorganization process, please contact CMS Support or submit a CMS Support Intake Form.

Kickoff Meeting
Step 1
Once a unit has expressed interest in a site reorganization (via CMS Support or the CMS Support Intake Form), the UCM Digital Team will schedule a kickoff meeting to discuss the goals, details, and information needed to start the process. It will also determine if a sandbox site (testing environment) is needed.
Content Inventory
Step 2
The UCM Digital Team will inventory all existing pages on the unit's current website into a reorganization template (Excel spreadsheet).
Action Assignments
Step 3
Once the Content Inventory has been shared, the unit will fill in the template with pre-set action items. These assignments will tell the UCM Digital Team what to do with each page on the existing website. The action items include: Rename, Move, Rename + Move, Archive, and No Change.
Build New Content
Step 4 (if needed)
If needed, the unit will create any new website sections and/or pages that will be included in the final reorganized site. This includes adding all content.
Information Architecture
Step 5
Once the Content Inventory has been filled out with all action assignments and all new content has been built, the unit will provide an Information Architecture to the UCM Digital Team — an outline of all content (existing and new) and how it will be organized once the relaunch is completed. This can be completed in a Word/Pages document or via our Wireframe Forms.
Schedule a Relaunch Date
Step 6
Once all details have been finalized, all questions have been answered, and all unit stakeholders have cleared the site reorganization, a relaunch date will be scheduled. This date will also be determined by the unit's post-relaunch availability and the UCM Digital Team's current workload.
Execution
Step 7
On the relaunch date, the UCM Digital Team will execute all action items, republish the site to Production, and review that all links are working post-relaunch. The unit's Content Manager will be on standby for questions and post-relaunch review. Redirects will be put in place at this time (on a case-by-case basis).
