B.S. Degree in Cell and Molecular Biology (CAM)

Offered at the Tampa Campus.

The Cell and Molecular Biology degree program will provide a strong foundation in general biology with a strong emphasis on biomedical-related areas, and focusing on the cellular and molecular processes that occur within cells. While USF offers General Biology degrees, this CBO major is a significantly more specialized field of study. The CBO degree program will prepare students for professional careers in the areas of Cell Biology and Molecular Biology, including entrance to medical school, dental school, graduate school, as well as careers in biotechnology, science policy, biomedical research, teaching, as well as science writing and illustration.

The Cell and Molecular Biology degree includes a broad background and education in the sciences, including chemistry, biology, physics, and mathematics as well as specific, focused training in the field of cell and molecular biology. Topics covered in advanced course work include mechanisms of gene regulation and expression, protein trafficking, regulation of cell survival and cell death. Application of modern laboratory techniques, analysis and interpretation of research data, as well as written and oral communication skills are integrated into course-based research projects.
