IBL 2025 Annual Conference: Black Joy
February 06, 2025 — February 07, 2025
SUBMISSION GUIDeLINES
The Institute on Black Life invites you to submit either a short clip/trailer (30
seconds) of the film or synopsis (300 words maximum) of the film on the theme of Black
Joy for consideration in our upcoming 2025 IBL Annual Conference.
Black Joy is a powerful lens through which we can understand the full breadth of Black
life, identity, and resilience. This conference seeks to explore and celebrate the
dynamic ways Black individuals and communities cultivate joy in the face of personal
and systemic challenges. We invite scholars, artists, activists, and practitioners
to engage in thoughtful discussions on the varied functions and expressions of joy,
as well as the contexts in which “joy” attains cultural, social, and political value.
We are looking for films to be between 5 - 20 minutes in length or for segments of
longer films that can be clipped to about that length.
Submission Deadline is December 02, 2024.
All questions about submissions should be emailed to IBL.

The conference will be held in person at The University of South Florida in Tampa, FL.
