John Rutledge, MSW, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Social Work, will serve as the new chair of the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program.
Rutledge is widely known among students and colleagues as an inspiring storyteller who brings social work concepts to life with vivid real-world examples. His engaging teaching style and his ability to connect with students have made him a favorite within the School of Social Work.
"As BSW chair, I am confident that John will bring this same passion to shaping an educational environment where students feel supported, inspired, and thoroughly prepared for the complexities of social work practice," said Chris Simmons, PhD, interim director of the School of Social Work. "His vision for the program aligns with our mission to provide exceptional education and support for our students."
Rutledge's background is in community based social work which has included child welfare, family systems, chronic disease and illness, as well as end-of-life and palliative care.
He will be taking over the role previously held by Vickie Lynn, PhD, an assistant professor of instruction, who served with dedication and made significant contributions to the program’s success and growth.
