Faculty & Staff Resources
Academic Processes & Guidance
The Office of Graduate Studies serves as an academic liaison for graduate colleges and programs in matters pertaining to policy, curriculum, and best practices in graduate education. This section should assist faculty and staff with current and archival information regarding curricular processes, meeting minutes, and the student journey.
Faculty interested in submitting revisions to the Curriculum or proposing new programs, certificates, or pathways must submit these requests through Modern Campus Curriculum (formerly Curriculog) for review. Specific information and the required steps are available in this section.
Graduate Program Directors & Staff vary by major and are generally responsible for
recruiting, admissions, graduate advising, and general academic support for the graduate
students.
Find resources and guidance for these processes with responsibilities related to mentoring
plans, A.C.H.I.E.V.E. IDPs, theses/dissertations, graduate faculty credentialing,
and more.
Forms are important milestones along the academic journey. These forms range from course currency to change of graduate concentration to admission to candidacy. You can find all the forms in this section needed to assist graduate students.

- Specialization definition (GC approved 4/21/22): Specialization is an information sub-curriculum within a major and/or concentration that gives a focus to a content area or research interest within the major and/or concentration. It is less formal than Concentrations and is not tracked in the Student Information System or recorded on the transcript.
- Concentration: (USF Policy pending final approval) Any organized set of courses that is offered as a subset of a major and enhances or complements the major to be awarded in a manner which leads to specific educational goals, occupational goals, and/or from different disciplines that provide an interdisciplinary focus. Concentrations should be at least nine (9) credit hours in addition to major core requirements required of all students in a particular major regardless of concentration. Each concentration should have at least one required course of a minimum of three credit hours. The total number of concentration credit hours should not exceed 50 percent of the total major hours.
