Engagement Survey FAQ
Overview
What is employee engagement?
Employee engagement does not constitute job satisfaction; it is the degree to which
an employee is emotionally committed and connected to their organization. Engaged
employees are dedicated to contributing to the organization’s overall success and
achieving their goals.
Factors that can affect engagement include job duties and responsibilities, work environment
and culture, supervisor and colleagues, communication, opportunities for advancement
and growth, and recognition and rewards.
Why is employee engagement important?
Employee engagement is linked to organizational success. Positive influences in employee engagement can lead to increased performance and productivity, enhanced creativity and innovation, improved workplace culture, higher employee retention rates, higher job satisfaction, increased revenue, improved customer service, and higher customer loyalty.
Why is USF conducting an employee engagement survey?
USF is conducting an employee engagement survey as part of its ongoing efforts to become a great place to work. The survey aims to give employees a voice and help USF identify areas of opportunity to enhance the overall employee experience.
Why should I participate?
Completing the employee engagement survey is a way to confidentially share your thoughts and experiences about working at USF. Your feedback will allow your manager and leadership team to review aggregate data to formulate action plans to enhance the employee experience across USF.
In what languages will the employee engagement survey be administered?
The employee engagement survey will be administered in English.
Do I have to participate?
No, participation in the USF survey is voluntary. However, every employee’s experience is important, so we encourage you to complete the survey and share your feedback. While our goal is 100% employee participation among eligible employees, it’s the employee’s choice to participate and it is not mandatory. If you don’t have regular online access (through a computer or mobile device), please speak with your supervisor as you should be given dedicated time to take the survey.
Are there different questions for different employees?
All employees will receive the same questions.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
When will I receive my survey?
Currently, surveys are administered in voluntary units. Details will be communicated to those units on a case-by-case basis.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Will the survey be confidential?
Yes, to ensure the complete confidentiality of employee feedback, we have partnered with Workforce Science Associates (WSA) to host and maintain the online survey process through Qualtrics. The university will only receive aggregate data, and responses will not be linked to employee names. Reports are not generated for groups with fewer than five respondents.
You say feedback will be confidential, but if I fill out the survey online, won’t the computer be able to track who is responding?
The survey is coming from our third-party survey administrator’s (WSA) website. When responses are returned, they go directly to the survey administrator and are compiled with other responses. When results are pulled from the database, no source information, such as personally identifiable information, is included.
Will there be future surveys?
Yes. USF plans to run yearly surveys to help us continue to evolve and make USF a great place to work.
TAKING THE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT SURVEY
How will I take the employee engagement survey?
You will receive an e-mail from Qualtrics inviting you to complete the employee engagement survey.
You can take the employee engagement survey on any computer or mobile device.
How long will the employee engagement survey take?
The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
Can I take the survey during work hours?
Yes, you are welcome to complete the survey during normal work hours. As necessary, please coordinate with your supervisor.
If I have recently transferred departments or managers, do I answer the questions based on the former or current department or manager?
Please answer all questions based on your most current department or manager.
I will have trouble completing the survey during the timeframe allotted. Will there be any exceptions?
No. The survey must be completed during the scheduled two-week period. The survey will close at midnight (ET) of the closing date.
Does the survey need to be completed in one sitting?
We recommend that you do complete the survey in one sitting as it will only take about 5-10 minutes to complete. However, you do have the option to start the survey and come back later to finish provided that you use the same survey link in the original email that was sent to you.
Can I retake the survey?
Survey retakes are not enabled. However, if you need to retake the survey in order to change your answers or you forgot to answer a question, you can reach out to HR-EmployeeEngagement@usf.edu and we will work with the third-party vendor (WSA) to send you a new survey.
RESULTS
How will the results be used?
The results will be used to identify areas of strength as well as opportunities for improvement and integrated into business goals. Leadership and employees will work together to form action plans that focus on the areas of greatest impact.
Will I see the results once the survey is complete?
Yes. A high-level overview will be provided. Your manager will also share more localized results with your department.
Is the survey an assessment of my manager?
No. Questions about your manager exist as a broader set of questions that explore how people feel and experience the work environment as a whole.
What weight will be given to the comments?
Comments will be entered into a database and clustered by themes so that recurring comments around the same theme are grouped together. Comments will be viewed as an aid in helping to support what has been learned from the survey data. Comments will only be distributed at the Executive Level.
PEOPLE GOALS (ACTION PLANS):
What will the action planning process look like?
Central Human Resources will provide guidance to supervisors in developing and implementing action plans that focus on priority areas as identified in the survey results. Action planning will be a collaborative and ongoing effort.
Is there any type of accountability around action planning for these results?
Yes. Results of what we learn will be integrated into all that we do. Please check with your leaders to learn more about the local expectations regarding action planning and the resources available to assist you in identifying and action planning around results.
