Temple Terrace Farm 2 School Empowers Youth with Agriculture

Temple Terrace Farm 2 School was formed in 2014. Despite the expansion of gardening in the city of Temple Terrace, there was a noticeable lack of any organization that could dedicate their services and support to building school gardens. Temple Terrace Farm 2 School sought to fill this gap and empower youth for health and success through hands-on agricultural experiences. The organization partners with elementary schools in order to not only help students learn and practice gardening, but also to enhance their learning in other areas. During the 2017 - 2018 school year, Temple Terrace Farm 2 School began to create a garden where the students of Cork Elementary in Plant City could practice reading. In November, with the help of funding from the US Green Building Council, Temple Terrace Farm 2 School gave Cork Elementary students a place to be outdoors as they practice their reading skills. Another recent project completed by the organization involved Earthboxes and herbs to the culinary program at Greco Middle School in Temple Terrace.

In 2017, Temple Terrace Farm 2 School began a partnership with the Patel College of Global Sustainability. From this partnership, students are able to intern with Temple Terrace Farm 2 School in New Tampa and Plant City. Many PCGS alumni and current students serve as current executive board members, including Elizabeth Leib, Adrian Gonzalez, Arnel Garcesa, Arthur Polacow and Li Zhu. PCGS still continues to partner with Temple Terrace Farm 2 School—most recently, collaborating with them on the PCGS Alumni Network Annual Day of Service in January.
