USF enrolling Bay Area children as part of Moderna vaccine study
The University of South Florida says Moderna is testing efficacy, side effects and dosage; 12,000 children will be enrolled nationwide. One-quarter of them will get a placebo of saline and have their results compared with those who got the real thing (Fox 13).

How do researchers know it's the delta variant?
The COVID-19 delta variant is by far the most dominant variant circulating right now in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Scientists determine the prevalence of a particular variant through genomics testing and DNA sequencing but according to Dr. Jill Roberts, a molecular epidemiologist at the University of South Florida, the U.S. is only running genomics on about 10 percent of positive cases (WTSP-TV).
Florida may face its worst wave ever as the Delta variant spreads
The state is about a month away from its peak, according to an epidemiologist who tracks the virus there. “Short term and long term, the cases are going to explode,” Edwin Michael, a professor of epidemiology at the University of South Florida, in Tampa, said in an interview. “We are predicting that the cases will be peaking the first week of September” (New York Times).

USF awarded four-year, $69.9 million NIH grant to continue type 1 diabetes research
