The mission of Institutional Research Effectiveness & Assessment (IREA) is to facilitate research excellence by identifying, mitigating and managing risks in order to realize operational efficiency. IREA works closely with Research Integrity & Compliance and Sponsored Research in the following areas:

The Data Integrity team establishes and maintains the infrastructure needed for accurate data analysis and reporting--including, designing data tools and implementing data integrity procedures.

Data Use Agreements
Facilitate the issuance of Data Use Agreements (DUA) and ensure the responsible sharing and transfer of research data between a provider institution and a recipient institution.

Investigate allegations of research misconduct—which is defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results.

Protect digital information from cyber threats, ensure security of researchers and their work overseas, and train them on how to protect their work and comply with export control regulations.

Subcontracting & Subrecipient Monitoring

Evaluate subrecipient's risk of non-compliance with statutes, regulations and terms and conditions of the subaward to determine the appropriate level of monitoring needed.

What We Do

  • Approve establishment of service centers, core facilities, and Centers of Excellence and ensure that service centers and core facilities are operating at break-even point 
  • Assure data integrity
  • Audits (internal & external)
  • Investigate allegations of research misconduct
  • Issue data use agreements (DUAs)

  • Issue “outbound” sub awards to collaborating institutions

  • Manage data security compliance in accordance with DUAs
  • Monitor subcontracting and subrecipients
  • Protect U.S. government-supported research and development from foreign interference and misappropriation
  • Serve as subject matter experts (SMEs) on grant administration 
  • Vet the establishment of Educational Business Activities (EBAs)
