For Campus Partners
Progression Team
The Progression team is dedicated to assisting and supporting undergraduate students in the sophomore, junior, and senior years on their pathway to timely graduation. Progression advocates begin working with first time in college (FTIC) students the spring of their second year, and the assigned advocate will work with that cohort until they graduate.
Due to the cohort model, our Progressions advocates have gained unique perspectives on the barriers that students encounter throughout their academic journey. Our team is equipped to provide support to students with a range of barriers, from wellness concerns to major exploration. We utilize enhanced organizational techniques and collaboration in order to provide the best proactive support for student success. We work closely with academic advisors, wellness care providers, and other student success staff to assist students to progress.
Initiatives
The Progression team supports two graduation initiatives tied to institutional and state metrics, and they recognize graduation is a holistic process that begins when a student enters the university. Our team works towards a six-year graduation rate for undergraduate students of 75% and a four-year graduation rate of undergraduate students of 65%.
Finish in Four
To align with Florida metrics and support undergraduate students, USF launched a campus-wide Finish in Four initiative in 2017 in order to prioritize four-year graduation. The Office of Academic Advocacy (OAA) collaborates with multiple offices and provides targeted outreach and support to FTIC students with potential progression concerns in order to enhance four-year graduation rates.
Finish in Six
Due to unforeseen financial, academic, or personal challenges, some students require more than four years to meet graduation requirements. OAA works to assist these students to ensure they stay on track for graduation. The goal is for all FTIC students to complete graduation requirements within 6 years or less.
Future Initiatives
Additionally, since the Progression team works with students from the sophomore year until their graduation, they recognize the opportunities that exist to frontload support to students in order to enhance graduation rates. They are developing a sophomore initiative and are seeking collaborative opportunities with the university community.
