Application Process
Additional Components
Outside of the required materials for your law school application, applicants also have the option of submitting addendum and/or optional statements. Addendum can be used to explain any inconsistencies or gaps in your academic history.
Some reasons to include addendum in your application can be found below:
- Low GPA due to poor major choice
- Extenuating circumstances impacting your academic performance
- Extenuating circumstances impacting your performance on the LSAT
- Low GPA in first bachelor's degree (can be used by post-bachelor’s degree students or those pursuing a master’s degree prior to law school)
- Any unique issue impacting your academic performance
Optional statements are separate from addendum and do not address any inconsistencies or gaps. Optional statements can address why you want to go to a particular law school, what you can offer a particular law school (i.e. what makes you unique), etc. Some law schools will have their own prompts for these optional statements. For example, FSU College of Law has a “Seminole Statement” where applicants can share how they can contribute to the FSU community, if they are accepted into their program. Make sure to check the admissions websites for your intended law schools to see if they have templates for optional statements!
