What is cancel culture? What does it mean to be civil in a modern context? Is it possible to be civil and call out injustice at the same time?
These subjects were the topic of Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) visiting scholar Dr. Cathleen Kaveny during a Frontier Forum Lecture at the University of South Florida's Judy Genshaft Honors College on November 15, 2023.
Following Dr. Kaveny’s lecture she was joined on stage by two Honors students, Hannah Craig and Anna Gustafson, as well as Dr. Magali Michael, interim dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at USF, for an extended conversation. The four women discussed the country’s political and social discourse surrounding the media and the perceived increase in the demand for the condemnation of injustice.
After the lecture, Dr. Kaveny signed copies of her latest book, "A Culture of Engagement: Law, Religion, and Morality," which created the opportunity for attendees to chat with Kaveny in a more intimate setting.
