Students Impacted by Hurricanes

USF is committed to working with students who have been impacted by the hurricane. So, to ensure students remain enrolled, USF is actively working to fully support students, so they maintain their current class schedule when possible. Students impacted by the hurricanes who need to reduce their courses, must take the following steps:

  1. Contact an Academic Advocate at academicadvocacy@usf.edu from your USF email address or complete the Student Intake Form.

Withdrawing can have financial and other penalties. Before you withdraw, if you are:

    • Receiving Financial Aid or need financial assistance, they should be directed to https://www.usf.edu/financial-aid/questions/faq-hurricane.aspx.
    • On a Student Visa, they should be directed to the Office of International Services F1status@usf.edu.
    • Receiving Veterans Benefits or Military Tuition Assistance, they should be directed to the Office of Veteran Success at ovs@usf.edu.
    • Students called to Active-Duty Service as part of the National Guard or the Reserve should complete the Military Activation Form located on the Office of Veteran Success website under forms and email ovs@usf.edu sharing, they have been activated for Hurricane Helene relief.

  1. Withdraw in Student Self-Service under "Plan & Register".  If you are attempting to withdraw from all classes or have reached a withdrawal limit, you will need to complete an ARC Petition (undergraduate and Non-Degree students) or Graduate Studies Petition process.

  2. After you’ve been approved to withdraw, you will be automatically considered for a Fee Adjustment Request with documented reasons related to the storm.  Documentation may include a letter of support from your employer, an acknowledgement from your insurance company you are their policy holder, etc. Committee members do not need extensive proof; however, no USF employee is authorized to consider granting refund based only on a broad personal description of circumstances or personal photographs.
