CRLA Peer Tutor Training
Tutor training at the Academic Success Center is certified through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) and is designed to meet the requirements for the International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) for certified tutors levels I – III. Each training has specific learning objectives and requirements for training and tutoring experience.
Note: To participate in tutor training, tutors must be active employees for a tutoring center on campus.
Benefits of Certification
CRLA certification is an essential professional development opportunity for peer tutors. The Certified Tutor, Advanced Tutor, and Master Tutor certifications equip peer tutors with a credential recognized as the industry standard in the field of learning support. Additionally, participating in training provides tutors with the opportunity to sharpen tutoring best practices, self-reflect as learners and tutors, network with peer tutors across campus, and develop transferable skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and evidence-based learning strategies.

How to Enroll
Level I tutor training is offered as SLS 3717: Peer Tutor Training, a 6-week, alternative calendar course offered in face-to-face and online hybrid modalities during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Tutors must request a permit to enroll, and registration must be completed prior to the start date of each session.
Level 1 Training Schedule
Summer 2025
- Summer A (Face-to-Face): May 19th – June 27th Fridays from 10:00 -11:50 AM
- Summer B (Online Hybrid): June 30th – August 8th Fridays from 10:00 - 11:50 AM
Fall 2025
- Online Hybrid: September 12th – October 17th Fridays from 10:00 -11:50 AM
- Face-to-Face: October 22nd – December 3rd Wednesdays from 4:00-5:50 PM
To Enroll in Level I Tutor Training:
- Confirm your enrollment with your immediate supervisor
- Request a permit from the Academic Success Center:
- For face-to-face sections, email Isabelle Cavazos
- For online hybrid sections, email Dan He
- Include your U number and preferred section in your email
- You will receive an email from the ASC when your permit is issued with registration

- Please note that you may self-enroll before the add/drop deadline; after the deadline, you will need to submit an Alternative Calendar Course Request to manually enroll before the training start date
