Level I - Certified Tutor
Level I tutor training highlights learning theory and tutoring strategies for individual and group peer tutoring. This training analyzes tutoring best practices through in-person, synchronous discussions, group work, lecture, supplemental reading, and exploration of learning patterns.
Student Learning Outcomes for Level I Certification:
- Facilitate effective tutoring sessions from beginning to end.
- Apply the learning theories and identify/adapt to content and individual needs during tutoring sessions.
- Demonstrate ethical practices related to tutoring and handling difficult students
- Utilize appropriate communication skills including, but not limited to listening and questioning strategies during tutor sessions.
CRLA Level I Sample Syllabus:
Level I tutor training is offered as a 12-hour, 6-week, 0-credit course in both in-person and hybrid formats through SLS 3717: Peer Tutor Training.
In addition to completing training, tutors will need to accumulate at least 25 hours of appointment-based tutoring or 50 hours of drop-in based tutoring to be eligible for certification.
