Writing Studio
Synchronous Services
The Writing Studio offers in-person appointments at the Tampa library location (LIB 233) and online appointments through Microsoft Teams. Consultations are interactive and collaborative, so students should come prepared to work actively on their writing.
What to bring to an appointment
Students should come prepared for their writing appointments by bringing the following to their online and/or in-person appointments:
- laptop and/or two printed copies of their draft to review with the writing tutor;
- assignment guidelines, rubrics, and/or feedback from the professor;
- 2-3 questions to discuss with the tutor.
Printers are available on the first floor of the USF Library for printing.
What to expect for a Synchronous appointment
- For in-person appointments, students should arrive before the start of their appointments and sign in at the front desk with their U number.
- During the session, students will have 50 minutes to collaborate with a writing tutor, who will ask questions about writing goals and concerns.
- Tutors do not have the ability to extend the meeting time or other additional tutoring not by appointment.
- Students will retain authorship of their own work. Tutors will not do any direct writing, although they can help with things like sentence structure and clarity. Learn more about USF Ethics and Integrity.
- Students should take notes during the session and/or save any changes they make at the end.
- If the session is online, please note that Teams allows for file sharing, audio/visual sharing, screen sharing, collaborative writing, and chat features.
How to Join an Online Appointment
- Students can join the appointment through their Accudemia Home Page.
- Under "Upcoming Appointments," students should click on the "Join" button for the session. It will redirect to the Teams meeting.
- Students are encouraged to log in 10 minutes early to ensure that devices are working properly, including the screensharing feature.
