PROGRAM INTRODUCTION

Program Leader: Tina Piracci

The Honors Italy Art of Invention program is a two-week experience where students will follow “Leonardo Da Vinci’s trail” from Rome to Florence to Milan, exploring the intersections of art, science, and innovation. Together, we'll journey into the world of art and innovation through the lens of historic Italian cities while learning about influential artists and thinkers in the heart of picturesque Italy.

This program aims to expose Honors students to critical moments in history and their relation to movements in art, culture, and technology, enabling them to connect past advancements to future innovation.

LOCAL PARTNERSHIPS

In partnership with CRETA Art Studio and Gallery in Rome and Florence University of the Arts, students will delve into the works of Da Vinci and other Renaissance artists, studying their impact on contemporary art, design, and engineering principles. The course will culminate in a proposal for an invention or art piece that integrates these interdisciplinary and innovative principles.

CULTURAL IMMERSION

Students can look forward to visits to culturally significant landmarks and museums, including world-famous artwork such as “The Last Supper” and the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican Museums.

Students with an interest in art, science, engineering, interdisciplinary studies, and invention will thrive in this program. Please note that the associated internship course will not satisfy an Honors core course requirement and is only one credit.
