Why should I get a job?

There are numerous benefits to taking a part-time job as a college student. No matter your financial situation, it always is helpful to earn money to help cover your expenses and minimize your debt while in college. To help you reach your career goals, part-time employment boosts your resume as it provides the opportunity to develop transferable skills and real-world experience, and can also demonstrate your ambition and work ethic to future employers.

What jobs are available?

While studying at USF, you can consider employment on-campus or off.

If you like the convenience of being on-campus, USF hires thousands of students for part-time jobs on all campuses. Consider areas of interest on campus -- labs, recreation center, facilities, office work, events planning, plus so much more -- and then log into Handshake to see what is available. You can also approach a department/facility of interest and inquire if they are hiring.

USF also has Federal Work Study positions on campus that are offered as part of some students' financial aid packages. Check your financial aid offer to see if these jobs are part of your award.

Off-campus employment is also an option and local employers often post positions on Handshake for your convenience.

When should I get a part-time job?

Part-time employment opportunities are available all year round, although on-campus opportunities are more plentiful just prior or at the beginning of the semester, more so before fall semester. Early in fall semester, USF also hosts part-time job fairs to help connect students with opportunities on and off campus.

Some students seek employment as they are first setting foot on campus; others prefer to wait until they are settled into university life and have their academics and extracurricular activities established. Timing is really a matter of need and/or preference.

Where do I go to find a part-time job?

Visit the Center for Career & Professional Development on your campus for guidance on finding a part-time job.  Positions will be posted on Handshake, USF's employment portal.
