Course: LIS5020 Foundations in Library and Information Science

In LIS5020 Foundations in Library and Information Science, Dr. Denise Shereff aimed to prepare students for professional engagements in the field of library science while simultaneously familiarizing students with AI and its applications in the discipline. Learning designer Meghan Wieckowski collaborated with Dr. Shereff to incorporate AI into career-readiness assignments by having students use ChatGPT to create resumes and cover letters. This approach not only helped students craft professional documents but also provided practical experience with AI. This innovative use of AI tools enhanced students' understanding and comfort with emerging technologies

Digital Learning Designers Tips:

It is helpful to remind students not to put identifying personal or sensitive information into Generative AI tools, but instead use pseudonyms and generic descriptions as appropriate. Students can then edit the resulting AI-generated materials outside of the program to reincorporate that information as needed.
