Course: Artificial Intelligence in Education

Artificial Intelligence in Education, taught by Dr. Bo Pei, comprehensively explores the role and impact of Artificial Intelligence in modern educational landscapes. Dr. Pei aimed to teach AI skills to students without computational backgrounds and allow practice opportunities to use AI to solve educational problems. Dr. Pei collaborated with his learning designer, Dawn Adolfson, to design several assignments in the course that involve the use of AI tools by the student and instructor, such as Generative AI, Large Language Models, machine learning, and others. In one example, the instructor uses Generative AI to provide automatic feedback on an assignment for students in Week 1. Then, later in Week 8, students are asked to critique the feedback they received and think critically about the strengths and challenges of using Generative AI to provide feedback to their future students.

Digital Learning Designers Tips:

As the designer, think like a student viewing the course for the first time and ask yourself, “Do I understand how to do this assignment using AI?” and “What questions would I have for the instructor regarding ethics, privacy, or academic integrity?”. Consider these questions when writing the instructions for the assignments.
