5. Underwrite Process
Process
- PI/DRA analyzes the need and associated risks of underwrites and if acceptable, prepares
underwrite paperwork.
- PI secures compliance approvals (as necessary).
- PI submits underwrite paperwork to Chairperson and/or Dean/Director for approval
- Chairperson and/or Dean/Director approves underwrite.
- PI/DRA submits completed Underwrite Form, used to establish temporary/bridge funding for anticipated award, required compliance approvals, and completed Internal Form, used for official approval to seek funding (if not previously submitted) to Sponsored Research.
OR
When compliance approvals are not yet secured; PI submits completed Underwrite Form, used to establish temporary/bridge funding for anticipated award, and completed Internal Form, used for official approval to seek funding (if not previously submitted) to Sponsored Research and emails statement (to Sponsored Research) that no research related to pending compliance approvals will begin until approvals are secured and that no underwritten funds will be used to pay for any expenses related to such research pending compliance approvals.
- Sponsored Research reviews underwrite and approves as appropriate.
- Sponsored Research forwards approved underwrite to Sponsored Research Post Award for processing and notifies PI, Chairperson, Dean/Director and designated departmental staff.
